Fr Matthew Jarvis OP

Spiritual Director

Fr Matthew is Prior of St Dominic’s Priory (the Rosary Shrine) in north London.

He grew up in Rochester (the city of St John Fisher) and partly in Cyprus. He met the Dominican friars during undergraduate and postgraduate studies in History at the University of Cambridge. After a year working as a Dominican lay volunteer in Manila in the Philippines, he entered the novitiate in Cambridge, then completed studies for the priesthood at Blackfriars, Oxford.

Following ordination in 2016, Fr Matthew has ministered in parishes and university chaplaincies in England and Scotland. He spent two years in Lyon in the Province of France, obtaining a Licence in Patristics with a thesis on St John Chrysostom on predestination and God’s will for our salvation. He is presently researching the medieval and modern practice of Dominican chant for a part-time DPhil at Oxford University.

Fr Matthew also serves as Provincial Secretary for the Dominican friars in Britain and as a member of the Order’s international liturgical commission. With Fr Robert Mehlhart OP, he is the co-author of How to Sing Dominican Chant: An Immersive Introduction (2025).
