That’s the music of the Dominican Friars of Poland, now available in English. In February 2025 a cast of non-professional singers representing different Catholic communities in Kraków came together to record an album of liturgical music: simple but reverent pieces which they have sung for years in their native Polish and now are happy to share with the rest of the world. The repertoire forms a basic corpus of music for the whole church year. It can be learned and sung well in a short amount of time, by dedicated choirs of modest means – just like our album, recorded by volunteer singers after a brief period of rehearsing.

“Jesu, Domine”, Jesus, Lord – a cry that opens a prayerful chant composed by a Polish composer Urszula (Ula) Rogala – has lent itself to be the title of the whole recording project. “Jesus, Lord, we adore you and implore you to keep us close to you; Jesus, Lord, beloved Son, Word of the Father, draw us ever to yourself”, continues this gentle but insistent litany. Among ten recorded chants you will hear energetic, triumphant hymns of praise (“Waters of Jordan, Rejoice”, “The Father’s Voice”, “Shout In Jubilation”) along with more meditative Eucharistic chants (“O Blood and Water”, “Bread of Heaven”, “Lord, I Am Not Worthy”), a Taizé-style ostinato (“Come Holy Spirit”) and finally two Marian prayers (“Ave Maris Stella” and “Our Lady, Our Mother”).
